as the season approaches, not unlike seasons past, football, both college and pro will get minimal coverage in our fair nation.

its not as grim as you might think, sports fans... the internet is more than just a way to watch porn and download music, many sites stream live games and in this thread we share the many ways one can potentially watch their favourite team for free every week... unless youre a broncos fan, in which case, its probably best you wait til 2010.

for starters, justin.tv and ustream.com were great last season, with very little and only occasional lag and zero dropouts all season long.

ive also heard of a few sites that offer games for download shortly after they air, many commercial free and others interruption free (ie, once the whistle blows on a play, it picks things back up on the very next snap).

Is this the best NFL season ever?

At the moment, I think this is the best NFL season ever. Yes, there's a lot of terrible teams out there, but for the first time since probably the mid 90's, the quality of overall play has been outstanding. The league has had an influx of good, young QBs that are spawing a resurgence in competitiveness in teams. Good teams are definatively good, bad teams are definatively bad, but that's better than the last few seasons where everyone was mediocre and it was field goal fiestas and punts galore. Can anyone else remember an NFL season in recent memory that was this much fun to watch unfold?

NFL Overtime Procedure

following a rather disappointing overtime loss for my beloved Patriots today, I am interested to hear what other people's opinions are on the current NFL procedures.

As it stands NFL OT is a simple 'Golden Goal / first score in OT wins', which to me comes down to luck of the coin toss, in that whoever wins the toss in OT is quite likely to score first. This seems to seriously disadvantage the team that loses the toss. (yes the Patriots lost the OT coin toss and Denver won on the first possession of the OT)

NCAA College rules are: Coin flip - no kick off, but winning team starts on their opponents 25yd line and try to score. Then the opposition have an opportunity to try and score. This is repeated until someone scores (after the 2nd possesion, teams are only allowed to attempt the 2 point conversion after a TD - PAT's are not allowed)

The other option is they go to a 5th quarter (or additional OT quarters if scores are still tied) of regular play, allowing both teams a chance to score, until one team wins at the end of play, similar to how OT is regulated in the NBA/NHL/MLB. Yes this may really drag out a game, but it would be a true measure of what team is the better one.

Who here would ever believe a word that comes out of Brett Favres mouth? I guess we all know his next career choice after he finally does leave the NFL for good, future Govenor of Mississippi

I know the list isn't complete, but I couldn't think of any more off the top of my head.

Who is the worst QB of the last 20 years? They must have started at least 30 games, so people who were "draft busts" after only a year don't count. These are the guys that kept hangning around on talent alone, but couldn't win a game to save their lives.

My vote is Rick Mirer. He ruined more teams who fell in love with his arm than any other team in NFL history - yes, that includes Jeff George!

Sav Rocca had a decent enough outing for the Eagles in the preseason game today... according to NFL.com, 4 punts with a 48.2 average.

His long punt, a 65 yarder, you may see on ESPN in the next day or so... not for the punt, but for the hit he copped while he was jogging along in coverage. To his credit he got up pretty quickly and went and retrieved his helmet from 10 yards away..........

This is a fun comp to tip and once i get 10 people ill post the rules. The comp will only cost 2 dollars per round so first place should be fairly profitable but like I said I want dedicated people for the season.

Lets see:

Yes Willie Parker has 1317 yards to Taylor's 1019 so far

BUT

Parker is rushing @ 4.1 per attempt to Taylor's 5.1

To be fair, both RB's are second fiddle in their teams for scoring TD's but Taylor has 4 to Parker's 2.

Parker has 4 fumbles to Taylor's 2

And Taylor has 3 40+ rushes this year to Parker's 0. In fact the 'elusive' (according to Madden '08) Parker's longest run of his 320 carries is 32.

And Parker has played against a powder-puff schedule (based on rushing defense) compared to Taylor. Twice vs Cincinnatti (ranked 24th in rushing defense), Twice vs Cleveland 28th, Denver 29th, NYJ 30th and Mia 32nd.

That's half his season against bottom quartile opponents. BTW Taylor has had a whole 3 games against bottom quartile opponents.

Don't punish a man for having the league's #1 backup taking carries away from him.
