VIC Season 2009

So it sounds like this may be quite a different year than 2008.

How are the teams looking in preparation for 2009.

I see the Seahawks still have their woes, going by the newspaper article this week in the local. It mentions an ex player has taken away their goal posts to be used for his new team. Does this mean there's a new club in the league?

Either way good luck to David with the new set up down in Frankston.

Warriors Win Juniors Vicbowl 2009
22-0 against the Rangers

Was a very wet and tough game,
Rangers played very hard.
Half time score was 8-0

very proud of my boys. They did well, to come back from 4th on the ladder to win the vicbowl.

The warriors clean sweep this year, is pretty rare, I think the Rangers did it once about 5 years ago. I know the last time the Warriors won juniors was back in 2003.

Junior Vic Bowl on this Sunday 1pm @ Croydon.

Rangers vs Warriors, should be a good game.

Mate Brian was #63 and you Missed Best Club person Award- Nathan Bickle.

Whats wrong with rewarding the players?? There are differing roles and we reward them. A LB is not a DB nor a Lineman so reward him I say.

FYI- Club Champion is voted by Coaches and MVP by the Referee's after each game.

I'm pretty sure Rookie of the Year at the Miners is for playing ability, or at least it used to be. Definitely in 2000 it was, the guy who won it that year was awesome. Better than Jesus even, an unstoppable force. His name escapes me though.

lol yeah everyone gets one... we had over 40 people play at least a cple of games this year and i think 11 awards... some of the awards arent on just playing mate. ie captains award, rookie of the year. How many do you guys have? whats wrong with awards???

God I would love to have been there to hear Gary bloody Wilson commentate a game!!! I imagine it would have been hilarious. Something along the lines of......

" what a bloody ripper of a day for football. If youse blokes don't get out there and put on a show for the crowd your all a bunch of bloody poofters!!!"

jokes aside, he is fucking hilarious. Quote of the UK trip. Centre struggling at training to shot gun snap. Gary Wilson " get a ball, take it to your room and snap it against some fuckin bricks" said in best occa voice.

big sex.... i thought the commentary was fine. I heard no comlaints from anyone all day, more actually saying how good it was to have a commentater there. When yo uwatch tv weather it be afl, nrl, nfl im sure you hear them questioning refs calls, players motives and so forth... Its just there opinion, no one really wanted to commentate so good on him. i thought the whole game was a good hard battle and probally the better side won. congrats to the warriors again, seem to be doing some real good things there... lets hope the other teams can lift and make it a lil more unpredictable year next year... good to see the buccs challenging now to

Was a pretty good game, the Rangers were never out of it until the Warriors got the ball back through a fumble and scored (think it was for the fourth TD).

Great to see a big crowd in to support Gridiron in Victoria and the young kid did a pretty good job of the national anthem.

Just for the record.... The Miners defeated the Rangers in a shootout in 2003. Score line something like 36-28. Rangers defeated Warriors 19-0 in 2004 (my last game as coach..). 2005 was Goldie's tipped pass catch in the endzone. Therefore Warriors have indeed won 4 out of the past 5 (05, 06, 08 & 09) - a fantastic achievement.

They were too polished, too good for us again on the weekend, congratulations to all concerned..

hey Big Sexy, i think you may find that 2003 was a Rangers win, 19-0 which was my first coaching. The only other loss was in 2007 to that amazing crusaders team that we couldn't beat that year. So i think 4 out of 6 isn't bad, also i cheated i have the Vicbowl at home and looked at it and i was very impressed to see the 2009 sticker already on there....

Good commentary Ralph. One amendment though - thats the Warriors 5th flag in 6 years - 2007 to the Crusaders is the only year the team has lose since 2003 (i know the Vic Bowl program had 2004 as a Ranger win but i'm pretty sure you'll find thats the year Goldie pulled down a hail mary pass at Footscray to knock the Rangers off on a last gasp drive).

Great game on the weekend - heaps of credit to the officials who i thought reffed a great game. Very few flags, some leniency with interpretation, and a smooth, free flowing affair was the result.

Only negative on the day was Gary Wilson. It's great to have commentary from the sideline (if for nothing else than to provide clarification to the less experienced members of the gallery) - but criticising refs calls and players actions (both Rangers and Warriors alike) left a pretty bitter taste in the mouth.

Well another VicBowl is done and the Warriors won on this day 34-16, i think as i missed the last bit. MVP went to Linc Decker of course who had an amazing day, i haven't seen the stats but he ran brilliantly and basicly was impossible to stop. Another guy who had a great day was Dom Dearman. He threw some great passes and all the receivers caught stuff short and long. Warrior defense was dominant and although the Rangers played hard they couldn't overcome 2 early scores, the second a brilliant bit of scambling by Dom ( something he's not usually known for) in which he ran right being chased by 3 Rangers and threw the ball back across the field on a screen ( which i doubt was designed ) that Linc ran in for touchdown. Another highlight of the day was a fingertip double clutch catch by Alex Maloney for a touchdown to make it twenty. He also had a huge runback on a punt and various catches on hooks and slants. Neil Young made a clutch 3rd and long catch to keep a Warrior drive alive and help them to another score. The offensive line was dominant when they went to the run and shoot in the second quarter when the onslaught started. The defense for the Warriors chased Skinny all day, didn't allow a long run and gave up two bombs in the last quarter when the younger guys where in. A great all around performance. For the Rangers one guy who was amazing was Tommy Kinlock, man he was flying around at Linebacker and shows he hasn't lost a step and all around the Rangers tackled brilliantly on the day. Another guy who looked good was their young running back, sorry don't know his name. He reminds me of a Churchy, in fact i wasn't sure which one was running. He looks to be a good one. The Rangers coverage was pretty good in the end but it looked like they played man across the field against the run and shoot with every guys at the same depth which puts a lot of pressure on those guys with no help deep. I guess if you get to the QB thats great but sooner or later something is going to give. Skinny had an ok day but was not as elusive as he has been so without that pressure and the running game not really biting and the Rangers playing catchup it was going to be a long day. It was a good clean game as ever with very few flags so fun to watch.
Congrats to all the players that got to the Final and well done to all the Warriors players ,coaches and supporters for bringing home another Vicbowl victory, the 4th in 6 years. Well done all. Thanks to the Miners for putting on a great day, it looked like there were plenty of supporters, always good for the sport.

Guys we should have Soy sauce. Warriors to win, they were the only side who beat us convincingly and without relying on luck.

also remember NO BYO Alcohol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am working and will be attending so if you do you have been warned.

I'll have a go. I have had some experience against the Rangers and although they may not be playing up to their usual high standard at the moment and have had some injuries they are always a dangerous team, especially in a final. They seem to play the best in the big games. I think the reverse is true of the Warriors, we seem to play our worse in big games. I think the weather will play a big part in the game. Windy , wet and miserable, you have to give it to the Warriors running game not just because of Linc and Kenny and the O line but also because the Rangers have not had a consistent running game this year. Watch their fullback Pascoe, he may break a few. A sunny day opens up the pass and the Skinny scramble but even with deep threats and good receivers across the field i will give this to the Warriors secondary as i think they are the best in the league at the moment. It will be a shootout and i suspect the score will be something like 24-21, add some wind and rain and it will be 14-8. So my answer is

1. Some success stopping it but beware of the short pass !

2. The spy will contain him but you can't stop him completely.

3. Someone will run one back.....

4. See scores above

5. I hope there is beer allowed this year and they are giving it away.
