Some good names there....hahaha. Anyway good luck to the state team in April. Hopefully they can recapture the title - seeing we havent had it since 1996!

Speaking of which, do we have good numbers out at training? I know that traditionally we have had very poor state training attendance. Are there any fund raisers going for the side? Can't be involved at the moment but happy to buy raffle tickets or attend a function etc to support the side.

Not really, its baskettball and the NAB has its own SIXERS, the Philadelphia 76'ers after the US Declaration of Independence, proclaimed in Philadelphia in 1776.

Way back in my Qld days when we searching for a nickname I suggested the 59'ers, similar to San Francisco, 1859 the year QLD broke away from NSW as an independent colony. I probably would have got greater support if it had happened 10 years later. ;)

I agree can usually a name would reflect the place the team represents, but sometimes that is a hard name to come up with.

And if that was the case, one example of the name not fitting the team - NSW Wolfpack? I don't recall ever seeing a wolf in NSW, nor there ever being any story or situation relating to one, thus making a wolf or wolfpack inherently reminiscent of NSW.

And weren't WA called the Warriors or something? (Sorry if it's wrong - can't remember)...

And pointing back home - The Adelaide 36ers in basketball... wtf do we have 36 of that is uniquely South Australian? >.<

My point is, that while a name that reflects the teams origin may be considered it's location, it could also be that the name reflects the teams origin in the sense of who they are, what they are trying to achieve, or what they use as inspiration.

State name is a tricky one....understand the change from the fire given the relatively recent victoria bush fire tragedies (and prior to that SA's).

If you go back a little further Chris we were the Saints. Reference there of course to the city of churches. In my humble opinion if you want pride and tradition then the name should relate to SA and not some random and transient concept.

I understand the name was changed, as some said there was some things about the old team they didn't like - new team, new name... but sorry if this offends people, but the "Swarm" doesn't instil a lot of fire (pardon the pun, again) and brimstone into me...

Dragons was the best name, I believe and I didn't even play under that name. Fire was ok... even the Mud dogs would have been alright (Love Sax!)... in fact, the SA Mud Ducks was by far the funniest, but if you're looking for a name that is supposed to bring a "weight" behind it, then Dragons was a great name.

Is a honey pot our new mascot, by the way? :D

Channo - you have to wear the honey pot around your neck for the tournament, this time... ;-)

I know this doesn't answer the question of why it was changed, but if you want a name with a winning tradition, change it back to Dragons.

Oh golly gosh my goodness someone wants it all handed to them on a silver platter so that they don't have to lift a finger. Well done to Sedge and the crap he has to put up with from some people in the league on a daily basis and then we have this comment from an adult.
Some of the administrators here should be getting paid for the work they do with an honourary sum of money annually. Maybe that needs to be put to the board at the next meeting and it may get some extra worms out of the woodwork to help and contribute positively.

Although I hate being trolled, I hate the fact that once again, you're showing us that there are STILL so many people willing to sit on the couch (or behind their keyboards) and throw popcorn at the screen that is the reality show, "GASA".

Reality is, Sedge has no need for a whore or a brothel, but he does need help with GASA related things sometimes. The very same people that have been doing ALL of the work for GASA for years to keep it running ARE STILL DOING IT ALL, BY THEMSELVES... Sedge is just one of them.

The other reality is that Sedge has a life, believe it or not. A job, wife, home... same as most of us. He then also spends his spare time keeping GASA running for us. So if he hasn't updated a stupid website so you can once again go click click and get your information served to you on a plate with minimal effort, then bad luck. Luckily they're concentrating on more important things, like trainings, etc. If you were IN the State Team, or even remotely & genuinely interested in the team, you make an effort to find out WTF is going on with it. As I said earlier, I'm not even on the team & it seems I know more about it than you do. Why, because I made an effort to find out. The team is already training, we have coaches and the boys are fired up (pardon the pun) to go over and wreak some havoc interstate.

I'm not defending Sedge FOR Sedge, as he's more than capable of eloquently rebutting your insensitive, useless post all by himself... but I am defending the principles behind your attack. If there's a problem within the organisational structure of either GASA or the State Team and you believe you know a positive, constructive way to fix it, then either: [b]A:[/b] Positively and constructively suggest it, or [b]B:[/b] Offer to do it yourself to help the team out.

Otherwise stop your whining, stay sitting down in your comfy chair ffs and relax. Let the State Team do it's thing...

surprise surprise.... people are happy to sit back and take pot shots at club/league committee members for 'not doing anything', yet are unwilling to offer to help.

How about instead of 'sitting back' you get off your lazy *** and help! If you aren't willing to do that, then you have no right to bag the very few people who actually put their hands up and do things for the league.

SA FIRE State Team 2010

Hi guys,

thought i'd start up a specific SA Fire thread.

To start with, in an attempt to raise funds for the State Team, I have tentatively organised a State Team Superbowl Party at the Adelaide Casino Balcony Bar for Monday the 8th of February.

We need a minimum of 100 guests to get the venue, so i'm counting on everyone to do their best to get other players/friends/family/people off the street to buy tickets.

Cost is $30 and it gets you a light breakfast (bacon'n'egg muffins and ham & cheese croissants), drink specials during the game and the Casino's All-you-can-eat Buffet Lunch afterwards.

There will be raffles, and sweeps during the game, so please get onto asking everyone if they can make it. PM me if you have any questions!
