Just wondering, why are we naming a nose tackle instead of 2 DT's nobody in our league uses a 3-4 defence. And tall Spartans Punter being Mark Stewart. Only 5 sleeps until juniors starts guys. Get out there and support your club, and the future of our league.

DT - Fabs (Oilers) Darren Lee (Razorbacks\Chiefs\Spartans)

Thanks OOB, Mark Stewart was who I was thinking of.

In case you guys link straight into this forum. The league is now taking applications for the position of State team head coach. These applications must be in by close of business 30th of july. Expressions of interest are also being taken if you would like to be involved in any other coaching capacity. Obviously the head coach will have a major say in the selection of these but the league wants anyone interested in offering their skills to be involved.

Below is a post from Warrior27 in another thread...  I thought it was interesting and wanted to get peoples OPINIONS (not sledges or bagging) about this sometimes touchy subject...

Personally, overall, I don't believe our reffing is that bad... and certainly having more people in the Officiating Squad has certainly helped in recent times... but I agree with Craig in regards the matter of consistency...

What do you guys think? And yes Grant, I'd love to hear your feedback to please, mate.. :-)

A flag should only be thrown if:

- The incident is a safety issue ie: block in the back
- Has a direct or probable impact on the outcome of the play ie: if holding is away from the play and doesn't impact pursuit, leave it alone.

Officials should otherwise warn/coach the offending player that there actions are illegal and may indeed cost there team yards.

When a call is made they should be eager to explain what has happened to Captains and Coaches. Officials are facilitators of a good game of football and should be as keen to see the game flow as anyone.

Let the players play and present a good game to spectators whilst ensuring players safety is paramount and the play/game achieves the just outcome.

Paul Mercer is I believe and excellent example of someone who gets it right most of the time.

Some supporting info off the net (I am sure this subject has been solved a long time ago in the US so lets take a leaf out of their book).

New Haven Football Official Association:Ten Commandments of Officiating

Thou shalt:

1. Make Super Bowl Calls, no Woolworth (5-10 cent) calls.

2. Always Read the Play. Then Make the Call.

3. Always Rule a Pass Incomplete if there is ever a Question.

4. Always be one of 5 Back Judges on the Field and be Responsible for the Timing of the game. Always be one of 5 Linesmen on the Field and be Responsible for Knowing the Down and Distance before each play!!!

5. Always know and apply the appropriate officiating key utilizing NHFOA mechanics, philosophy and things to remember guidelines.

6. Always be Decisive when Making a Call.

7. Blow the Whistle only when you see the Football.

8. Be Precise in Verbal Communication on the Field.

9. Be Great Dead Ball Officials.

10. Officiate every Game in Cruise Control.

Successful High School Officiating Demands: Professionalism, Rules Knowledge, Mechanics, Dedication and Preparation.
http://www.nhfoa.com/10_commandments.html

GENERAL (Pdf Attachment above)
- Do not converse with crowds at any time before, during or after game intermissions.
- Be in top physical condition. The players work hard, the coaches work hard and they deserve our best.
- Don’t be over officious. Fans come to watch the players play and not to see officials officiate!
- If you have a foul make sure you KILL THE CLOCK!!
- Don’t’ ever criticize or attempt to explain another official’s judgement on decisions to a coach, team or fans. Never argue with players. If a player asks a question, give him the courtesy of listening to it, then give a definite and decisive answer. Never quibble about any situation.
- Do not discuss with any coach the play or players of his opponents in a game which you will officiate or are officiating.
- If a ruling is puzzling, relay an explanation to the press box.
- Assist players in the interpretations of rules when such request is made at the proper time.
- Wear your best and look best at every game.

Again I think our officials display most of these behaviours but at times lack consistency and we always as players remember the negative aspects. The challenge for us as an organisation is to recalibrate from time to time in a constructive and positive manner that allows people to continue to derive some fun out of the game as a Player, Coach, Spectator and Official. Let's hope we are all up to it.

Discuss...

Poker at my place 7.30ish. All welcome

Kev... I wish I could give my opinion on the refs but they hate me enough. Have to admit though they were better last year than the year before

I Think our Refs do a fairly good job considering they all probably have another job as well. Consider some of the other states use club players to ref during bye weeks or after they have played a game. I spoke to Steve the Ref who hurt is knee in a game and one of the better refs in our league since i've played. Hopefully he will change his mind and come out and Occupy the referee position behind the QB, to keep himself out of harms way. And for anyone who thinks umpiring should be easy i suggest they come out to juniors and give it a go. Think you will find it harder than it looks.

There was a guy named Andy Noel in the 90's that played in SA. He had a 100 yard interception return in the early 90's in the national championships against vic. He would have to get a mention somewhere wouldnt he?
