^ and in fact I sent a juniors player to the Miners this season because he came in late and he was going to struggle to get time on the field given how many players we had

Darren,

Miners in the past have been leaders in this sort of stuff. Perhaps you need to go back to the way you guys used to run from an admin perspective. Be a good club and you will become a good team..

Craig, I have to be careful with what I say in the open forum now I am president of the MINERS.

Numbers are not our problem this year as we are averaging close to 40 per session ourselves at the minute.  which with the exception of 2008 were our numbers in 2007 and 2006.

Funny what you have said about our administration, that is why i put my hand up and infact had just sent an email to another member of the committee almost along the same lines.  However, you guys are not the only ones doing Bunnings BBQ's etc last year we raised almost 6K and paid in full for a training camp at Mount Evelyn recreation resort.  Players paid zero.  we are again having a camp this year with zero cost to players and may have a practice match with an interstate side to end the camp.(they are to confirm this yet).

But, you are right a review of our club admin is due and will be conducted in the next few months instigated by me.  We will get back to what is was 2 of the three original Com members being me and Dale are back on and soon a third in Peter frerker may also com on board. So the future is changing.

Good news, another healthy club to prove that a move of seasons doesn't work in Vic. Glad to hear that your investment in players is paying off with good numbers. I believe that a key fundamental keeping people away from the game is the initial investment required to play for a first year player. Once they taste the adrenaline however it is a hard drug to give up, and the nights at training and at games forms strong bonds few other sports can compete with.

Should be an interesting year in GV

Just my thaughts on a subject that's dead. Hopefully we won't have this discussion again but moving our sport to any sort of hot weather will ruin any team with low numbers. After playing in ACT with a team who averaged 16 players a game any hot day killed us. We would have great first halves and just fall apart in the second. You can't expect the big boys to play both ways in heat.

Playmaker too true!!!

I only played in 2 games in extreme heat and that was enough to realise hot weather is not for this sport.  One was on the Old Olympic park V's Augsberg University 1989 and the heat on the field was in excess of 40deg.  madness!!

The other was a practice match in Bairnesdale in 1991,  again Madness!!

Darren,

Your problems with numbers is not the Warriors fault. They have 40 people at preseason because of not only the relationship developed with the uni (lvl3 affiliation - not easy to do) but also because they work hard to develop the knowledge and proffesionalism within the club.

Having witnessed first hand the sheer glee some players and their teams enjoyed whilst pumelling a bunch of skinny (learning) kids into the ground and trying to run up the score, I can't say I'm sorry to hear certain clubs/people are struggling for numbers.

Played the Miners once with 13 players, mostly rookies, and you'd think their season was on the line - the lack of any degree of sportmanship was stunning. Caveman attitude. Outlaws and Vikings similar.
