I think you will find its not being called as the QB has still got the ball. What I described is legal until the ball leaves the QB's hand. ie no pass interference on either side.
This is why my pet hate about my LB's is iwhen they let a receiver go thru the middle without being smashed. when I played all LB's did it including me, thats why it was a hard route to run through the middle. I think we maybe talking about different things.
I do not believe there is any rule stopping a TE faking a block then peeling off for a short pass same with RB's. As a LB had it done many times by opposing teams. I teach my guys that there is a distinct difference between a faked block and a real run block. Its called intensity. I run it at training every now and then. simulate the difference would be the smart move.
Oh, its also called reading the play, that doesn't stop with the initial read step.

crazychikns (21/06/2009) Good news out of the MINERS today, young gun Nick VLAD #16 has ben in the states the last week or so. He has been signed up by BOISE State University Football. Will Land there for 2010.
Go Nick.
So I pricked my ears up when I read this here, and was then even more stunned when Nick had a full page story and photo in the local paper, so I went looking around for any online confirmation of this story. Darren, what EXACTLY has Nick done? Has he signed a letter of intent? Has he given a verbal committment?

Last updated yesterday. I know recruiting is a hard thing to stay on top of, but you broke this story 3 weeks ago.

He's not on here either.
I figure they'd have publicised this somewhere. What's his current status?

You are correct mate we on defence can smash them as much as we like while the QB has the ball however they cannot touch us. this is one of the advantages of playing defence. like we are allowed to hit in the back, offence are not. we can grab to throw a blocker out of the way, they cannot. it evens things out for us, as they (offence) know the snap count, have pre snap reads so they know who they are blocking straight away and they know the play. We (defence) have to read it, get off the blocks and then after all this make the tackle nine times out of ten on a running back or full back that has been watching us since the start of the play and is already in position to smash us. So this is why the recieving player has to avoid contact with us on pass, they cannot interfear with our reads, even on play action pass the offensive line cannot come down field to block us, which in this league they do also. It would be good to get an officials opinion on this however. How about Lewis he is a pretty inteligent bloke (Love your work Lewis)

Dan, Nick is fully signed full ride. Will be at Boise in January. Red shirt for 2010. My belief is they will bulk him up to play DE. Pretty much everything is in the article. If he passes his SAT's he is in, if not he will have to settle for us.
Its just something we do at the MINERS, low key promotion of our talent. Having a strong tie and history with some real coaches and the right people helps of course.
Our hope is on spring break Nick can come back with the whole practice squad for the 2nd half of the 2010 GV season. wouldn't that be nice for us.

buccs_32 Thanks for the write-up sounded like a fun game.Wasn't at state last year. Glad to see some chat happening, even if it's dumb, it still gives us something to read about our league.

I have been told from the boy himself a commitment has been made, the only proviso is his SAT scores in Spetember when he sits them. If he fails it all disappears. As you would expect I guess. Otherwise he gets his red shirt in January and we will have to wait till 2011 season to watch him play.

If he goes in January, he would have to Grayshirt for the first 6 months then redshirt I believe. Grayshirts are a special exemption for mid-year (January) enrollments, and have some sort of flow on impact on scholarship numbers, but allow athletes to be enrolled as a student, participate with the team, but not affect eligibility.
