I really don't care what we play on. If I had to choose then yeah, grass first. But you have to admit, you need to have your sht together on turf. Fat guys have very long arms which means you have to hit that hole a split second before it opens up or a good LM or DB will shut your run game down. As for passing... A good QB/WR combo can get it done as well. But i also gives the smaller DB's a chance to be the mosquito's they need to be.

I like this thread of conversation guys... in my opinion i would definately prefer to play on grass week in week out. i would drive to woollongong every second week if it meant getting on grass. i dont care about length of field, all i care about is the damage to the joints on astro and the inability to properly throw the ball. i would also prefer to have astro burn over my body than have to throw and catch the leather soap 1001. it may sound like im complaining but im just venting my annoyance at damn cricket getting all the nice turf fields and us never getting the chance to play on grass. it would definately help to entertain the 'crowd' to be playing on a plush grass field visible to the public than hidden away on hockey fields where no one sees the game or know it exsists.

just my two cents

Ahh the annual grass vs turf thread we need to get some new material.. I dont think many would argue against good grass fields vs turf the problem is the poor quality of fields that we have access to... until our sport gets some more weight behind it we will allways be behind all other codes in the fight for decent grounds...

If we could get just 1 gridiron field in Sydney that we played all of our games on that was made specifically for us (maybe some of that nice artificial turf like at state) that would be golden..

but council doesnt care about a sport that has 600 or so players state wide and we have to deal with it..

I think the closest thing we have to a "specific gridiron" is Craik Park, at least they have proper goals...too bad its in the middle of F***ing nowhere! haha

Why is Craik so bad ?

It is 10 mins from a major freeway (sorry tollway), it is grass and proper size. Sounds like it solves all the problems raised here so far.

You all seem to have ideas - lets see you voice them to the GNSW Exec properly planned and costed and at the GNSW AGM next year rather than being faceless voices on a website having a whinge.

Fresh ideas needed.

I think both of u r right. Sure Craik's in the middle of nowhere, but it's decent and i'll take it over slip-'n-slide anyday.

We all know a lot of people do a lot of work out of their spare time so its not whinging, but sharing opinions.

I think a lot of young players would like to provide ideas to the GNSW AGM, but nobody knows anything about it, or even if they are welcome to come 2 it. To no fault of anyone I always thought it was a secret boys club that only long-time players went to.

the annual AGM is actually a good meeting to attend. not only do you get to have a vote on who is running theleague but you also actually see the amount of time and work the guys put into runing the comp. By no means is it an easy task and it definately is a thankless one. i am the first to offer my opinions and we all should, but unless we really want to help make changes we ought to be carefull on how much we criticize them. i went to this years meeting and heard all the dates for getting in ground allocations etc and had all the grand ideas of finding grounds etc but as usual fell off the radar. too much time is taken up by training and trying to run the Lions. If we want to help, i know the guys would love it. but helping means not making suggestions, but rather bringing formulated plans in action to the board.

I'd rather play down the Gong than Craik- the field at Craik is an ankle breaking death trap, and undulates worse than Kurnell.

For all you guys who have ideas...

Take them to your Club Executive Members, who in return can take them the League Executive.

Its no secret that the League Executive meet once a month to keep the level of competition we have going.

And from what know being a former League Secretary myself. The League Executive get little if not any information from Clubs at all.

When the time comes to sorting out the draw all clubs will be asked to submit ground availabilities and over the years the grounds that are often made available to the League are Hockey Fields.

The League doesnt have a preference to what sort of grounds the games are played on its just a matter of whats available at the time.

I can tell you all that most League grounds are being returfed as its there off season, or the grounds are set up for the Cricket seasons.

But like I said take your ideas to your club executive to have them taken up with the league.

Steel74,

I like the idea of passing ideas along. But they usually don't get through. As Liam pointed out, it takes up allot of personal time to turn ideas into actions. I went to a AGM back when I was all "Gung Ho" or how ever you say it. Personally I was turned off by the hierarchy in that particular meeting. It was a little intimidating. But what ever. The fact is ppl want to play on grass. I could play on Thode's back. It really doesn't matter to me. Bondi just had an awesome flag comp, which we played in the swamp like field near Tempe. I only wish we were playing tackle on the day. IT WAS AWESOME. Has anyone asked them about the availabilty of that ground? Someone please win the lotto and buy us a stadium of our own!!!!!
