Vewy Vewy quiet in here. Are the Uni boys(Syd and Tech) all behaving themselves. Where are they hiding. Are they taking this seriously. Do the UTS boys think they have a chance. Are the Lions boys worried. Are they all under directions and instructions from Dunny and Bosco to keep quiet. Suprising for a couple of talkers in both teams.

Championship Day is almost here and once again it's the Brain Bowl, Uni vs UTS.
Since making their first playoffs in 2005, Uni and UTS have contested 3 times in the playoffs in four years, including two Warath Bowls. Each game has been tough and close, with never more than a converted (2 point) TD in it.
This season saw the Lions overpower UTS in their first meeting but having to pull out all the stops in the second, to scrape a 3 point win. The question is, and has been since that game; Can UTS raise their bar further or have they shot their bolt? The playoff win again the Pirates was 10-0 until a two TD burst late in the fourth quarter, and this against a Pirate team missing their starting QB. The Lions should be a far more formidable opponent and they are at pretty much full strength.
The Lions ran roughshod over the League until their second meeting with the Pirates, who really forced Uni to dig deep for a late comeback win. UTS did the same the next week, possibly making the Lions work even harder. Still Uni was successful both times. The playoff game against the Seahawks wasn't the prettiest game but the Lions were clinical in their execution, despite two KO return TD's. The big question around the Lions is do they still have enough left in the tank? And do they want it still?
Key matchups for this game.
Uni pass rush vs UTS QB Jean Prill
When given time to find his receivers, this young bloke can make the pass. He's also a threat scrambling with the football. The Uni defensive line has to get pressure on. I don't think UTS can effectively run inside against them but when they had time to pass they made plays. The Lions need to nullify this.
UTS Outside running game vs Lion containment
The Pirates got some yards out of it. UTS got some plays out of it and the Seahawks managed to keep drives going with it. Running up the middle on the Lions is a waste of time unless you have a top notch offensive line. There's only one of those going around NSW at the moment and the Lions D-Line trains against it every week.
Going around the outside seems to be a healthier option against the Lions and I think they'll see a lot of the option considering the outside speed of the UTS QB and RB/WB. Deep completions to receivers will also help here with the force man more worried about the receiver than the running lane. If the Lions can close this or limit it, then UTS only has their passing attack and this hasn't been as consistent as they will need, although it has improved. The open field tackling will need to improve as well as this has been letting the defence down in situations where they have covered the outside run effectively.
UTS Defensive front seven vs Lions running game.
So far the points go the the Lions, especially their offensive line. They have managed an effective ground game each time they have played UTS and in the last meeting, it was the ability to pound the football, rather than big plays passing, that determined the outcome. UTS has never managed to take away the Uni running game and Uni has ridden behind their experienced O-Line to six consecutive Championship games. Unlike UTS, Uni will live between the tackles and dare UTS to fill the box. In two games they have rushed for just shy of 350 yards (347). Expect more on the weekend.
Lions coverage teams vs UTS return teams.
Normally this wouldn't rate a mention, until the Lions gave up three KO return TD's including two last week.
Big plays decide big games. The Lions have had a length-of-the-field punt return and 70 yard run in two Championship wins against UTS. Key plays at key times. They haven't given up the same thing (well not at key times) and will need to be sure that they don't allow for momentum changing plays off special teams, unless it's their own.
There is some feeling around the League that this could be the year Uni is de-throned in NSW. Certainly there have been a couple of close calls but winning becomes a habit, one that allows good teams to dig their way out of holes and get the win. Uni know how to do this.
UTS will want to start fast and keep their foot down. In a drag out game of trade the scores they have come out second best every time. Uni will be wanting to control the tempo of the game, keep the ball and pound UTS on both sides of the line. Given the history it should still be a close game Uni 33 - 27 UTS.

congrats guys on your 7th in a row... we (the Razorbacks) have just won our 5th in a row - 2 more to catch up, so if you guys could stop winning now it would be much appreciated just noticed on the Uni website http://www.sydneyunigridiron.com/News.html#selected the claim of the following: Sydney Uni became the first team in Gridiron NSW - and in any Australian league - to play 300 senior competition games on Saturday sorry guys, but the Hogs hit our 300 on the February 7th 2009 - with a record after that game of 247 wins, 47 losses, 6 draws giving us a win percentage of 82.33% FTW as of this past weekend or total games numbered 313games, 256 wins, 51 losses & 6 draws, dropping our win percentage slightly to 81.79% 18 premierships in 25 seasons. I think a national club championship might be on the cards for ultimate bragging rights - Uni vs Stingers vs Hogs

Of your 300 games are any of those playoffs?
Our 300 was not including playoffs, trials etc. 300 regular season games.
Congrats on your win esp since it sounds like you guys had to dig deep in the post season after a less than perfect regular season.
