| | I just wanted to ask a question in regards to Wolfpack. Now I don't think I am close to good enough to play so please don't think I am a disgruntled player who wasn't chosen. But I noticed that there were a few Sharks players listed on the squad. How was this decision made as most of their team have never played a proper game of 11 man football? I watched them play against the Predators (well 1/3 of the Predators) in the 7 a side exhibition match and they were thrashed 38 - 0 or something similar. Was this decision made to give them some confidence/experience? As I would have thought that you needed to play regular season games to get selected. I understand wanting to give them experience but it means that their are players (who may have just missed selection) from teams who played all season are missing out for guys who haven't even played a full game before which seems unfair. Anyway not trying to take away from the guys who were selected just wanted to know the process. Good luck guys and kill those dirty Melbournites! |

| From what I have heard all gridironNSW teams (which the sharks are one) were asked to submit a list of players they thought were suitable for the state side. On top of this wolfpack coaches were scouting at games (including the GF warm up game) checking the submitted list and adding other players.
From that selection a number of A candiate players were named (players that have demonstrated a skill set that suits the proposed schemes and from game day play, the coaches believe are ready to contribute at state) and a number of B candiadates named (good players that dont fit the A category for some reason eg they were injured and didnt play as much, are good but dont nessesarily fit the scheme but the coaches want another look etc)
If you look at the list at the league website the sharks players are only listed in the category B candiates. So from my personal rational I would believe that they are players that have been identified as having some raw talent and the coaches would like to see them tested and what they can do in contact drills.
This is my understanding, I am sure coach19 will jump on and clarify if i have made some.
On a personal note if the sharks players are training hard, learning the game and can contribute to another winning Wolfpack squad I am all for their inclusion.

| | Thanks G-Unit. As I said I wasn't trying to talk them down I just wasn't sure what the process was. Best of luck to the Wolfpack - kick some butt! |

| | I've been off the air lately, so haven't seen this string... Just to clarify: the players were chosen based primarily on Wolfpack coach's assessments and scouting. This began from Week 1 of the regular season and saw about 300 players listed and rated. The goal was for each player to have at least two assessments made of them, with players rated from 5 stars - elite level - to 1 star - unlikely. Scouting was done live and by film. Though club coach's input was welcomed and asked for, this system was a departure from the old system of coaches simply submitting a list of names without any real grading. The goal of this system was to put us in the position to select the best squad possible. In the end A candidates were selected and these are players the coaches felt had scouted best in their play over the season. B Candidates were ones that had areas in their game that needed work, or were coming back from injury etc. The reality is that there will be a number of B candidates who make the squad as we rep them in the skills that we need them to work. As for the Sharks players, rest assured that no player missed out on selection because they were included. Coach Tos gave his input, but also the players were scouted by Wolfpack coaches. Yes, their lack of consistent playing experience during the regular season is an issue, but they are a member team of Gridiron NSW and also we didn't want to miss a 'diamond in the rough' if one pops up. |
