I can't comment on the scholarship situation but at age 23-24 you'd probably want to already be an "elite" level athlete, or at least have something special going for you either in size and/or speed to interest US college scouts. A couple of guys have gone the Arena Football route.

Commenting on playing for Sydney Uni. Well, as an ex-player I can say that Uni has regularly blooded "rookies" in the team. "Best player plays", and I believe several first year players were starters or regular contributors on last years Championship team. Add to this the fact there are a few Uni players currently in the UK with the Australian Team and pre-season training for the Lions has already begun, means there are more chances for you to be noticed at pre-season training.

All that said, I would recommend you check where the nearest team to where you will be living in Sydney, trains. This just makes things easier for you.

Yes, players get paid. How much I am not sure. Forget about the stratospheric numbers you see being paid to NFL players. I think Arena get game payments and maybe a win bonus. I'm not sure whether the numbers are in any of the other posts about this or you could have a look at the Arena Football website.

First you'll need to find out how to play the game. Enjoy, it's great fun and the people involved are all passionate about the game.

Good luck.
