Agreed Slinky,The focus for clubs/league should be to foster junior players (easier to attract and ultimately your seniors), coaches and referees. I think that in general the work on the junior front has been very good and senior sides are definitely reaping the benefits. I have already said my bit on coaching and coaching courses but on saying that if every club could get someone (existing senior, ex player, promising junior) to attend a course each year then you are creating future resources. As for the refs, well love em or hate em they need resources too and for too long in this league it has been the same faces (well done to those that keep coming out). Same thing here for clubs - one person a year does the refs course. Resources are the aim of the game and whilst recruiting seniors direct is important, many of the 'new' seniors often dont last longer than a couple of seasons at best. Clubs need to be smarter with the resources they have. Speaking of valuable resources, WTF is with the league website? Last time I checked it was announcing a new sponsor for last season?

The current league website is http://www.gridironsa.com.au/I just noticed that the league is going to set up a hall of fame. How many people are going to get place in the hall? What is the criteria to be eligible for the hall? Is there going to be a 25 yr dinner? Only 4 week.

i hear that there will be a 25 year dinner, this will hopefully be attended by all current and previous players to support the league and celebrate the accomplishments of the first players/coaches/officials inducted.Responding to the criteria, i believe (my opinion only) it should involve; - Open to players/coaches/officials being inducted
- Any member should become eligible for the hall of fame two years after they retire from the league officially (i believe this is the same in the nfl but dont quote me on that?)
- A maximum of 2 players inducted per year, with no obligation to induct members if there are deemed to be no suitable candidates in the year (you can't fill up a hall of fame just for the sake of it)
- Obviously years of service/playing, record(s) held, team play, statistics, leadership qualities, value to team, etc should all be included in the consideration.
- A specific panel (most likely GASA) sorting through nominated players (maybe outside input) and deciding or allowing another body to decide who is inducted and on what grounds.
Season is only 3 weekends away Can't wait to see you all there!

Yaeg's is the obvious one. best player the leagues seen over an extended period of time. plus coaching & playing & winning champs all at the same time.
most others who you'd probably consider are either still playing or coaching or involved in some way; e.g. dwayne, reggie, butts, hurc, kaz hadimesic, fabs; plus all those long retired players from the "old league" that I'm no source on; e.g. Breakers etc.
don't forget people like Nanette and few of the refs....a few, though
maybe the original founders of the league?
should include people outside players and coaches as the league is such a small community that it'd be wrong not to include all GASA members from over the years. if it doesn't initially, it will later anyway due to public demand.
shouldn't be an anybody and everybody h.o.f.
need to run a parallel comparison with the NFL's h.o.f. to gauge our league on who's in and who's not. distinguish the good from the great from the exceptional.
Pressure is only pressure when you're unprepared...

Hall of Fame should be interestingFor my thoughts it should work something like this - League to set an entry number for the first few years and critiera for entry. (to be apprroved by GASA board which ensures imput from all clubs). - Nominations can be made by any GASA past or present member - They can nominate any OTHER past or present GASA Member by the deadline date. The nomination must be in writing and advise how the person they are nominating meets the critieria. - Nominations are then compiled and sent out with a voting slip to the voting commitee. - The voting committee is anyone with 100 senior games &/or 10 years service in a non playing capacity (or some mix of the above). - Votes are done, sent back and the nominations with the most votes to meet the number of entries available in the league are inducted. This ensures - clear transperrancy in the process - wide voting panel with enough involvement in the sport to make a correct decision rather than a small group - by co-ordinating this voting commitee it may help the league set up some sort of past players & officials assoc which for mine some 25 years after foundation is critical in keeping a link with previous people involved in the league. A bit to organise, but if it is to have credibility it needs to be done right.

Hey all, looking forward to this season.
Good to see the talk has moved away from a 6th team. While we have to pay 3 people to do chain crew each week as we don't get enough volunteers, another team is laughable. With 2-3 teams having low numbers each season i think 40-50 more players need to be involved before this can happen. People is the key. Players, coaches, volunteers in high numbers are needed.
While i think the hall of fame is a feasible idea, someone has mentioned a key point. We need to distinguish the difference between good, great and exceptional. With 25 years of history, a player needs to be exceptional to be in it. NFL is 5 years out of the game. I think 3 years would work for us as after 5years a lot of guys wouldn't even remember a player. I do like the voting criteria of 100games or 10years involvement to have voting rights as this ensures you have seen a wide range of players to distinguish the best from the rest. We also need to realise its a LEAGUE hall of fame. so while a person might have run a club or been on a committee etc. but that does nothing for the league. I say leave administrators out, that's what life membership is for.
As for the rumours people have been throwing around. Some people are obviously trying to be funny and some people will just about believe anything.
See everyone on the field
It aint c0cky if you back it up!

What do people feel about the change to the season start?
