http://www.theage.com.au/national/tv-legend-don-lane-dead-20091022-hamw.html

Passed away today after a battle with Alzheimer's.

I remember him hosting Tuesday night football on ABC like it was yesterday. The day the NFL shifted from the ABC pretty much every Gridiron league in Australia suffered an exodus of players.

Added colour and life to the broadcast, highlighted by Eddie McGuire and Simon O'Donnell's "efforts" to do the same on channel nine.

Don Lane introduced myself and a lot of my friends to American football on the ABC and will never forget him for that.

RIP.

I think GA should do something for Don Lane. Considering he was the ONLY way people in Australia got to watch football way back in the early 90's and the sport litterally grew from there.

With all the $$ GA collect from all states every year surely they could have done something like sending an Australia Helmet to say thanks?!

I remember watching football in the late hours on ABC and then being late for work the next day. Having the whole "And now we join the packers on the 45 yard line" (Packers score 3 plays later) "And then we join the eagles on the 21 yard line" (Eagles score 5 plays later)...and then people would go out to the games and be like...why does this game go for so long without scoring! LOL

RIP king of bringing Gridiron to Australia

Yeah, Don Lane introduced me to American Football, and for that I will never be able to say "thanks" enough.

16 years a fan, 12 seasons a player and coach, it's fair to say Don changed my life and brought me great joy through sharing his passion for football.

I'll raise a glass for Don and hope that somewhere he's in a heaven where the Giants always win and the season never ends.
