So its been about 2 months past the due date of the announcement of the HC appointment for the 2011 World cup team and still no news from our illustrious GA board.
last gossip was there were 5 applicants of which 2 have pulled out.
Leaving 3...1 from NSW, and 2 from VIC....one of the whom is ex NFL Europe, but has never contributed in any way at the local level in the Vic league either at state or local competition, in fact the only time he wanted to be involved at state level, he wanted to get paid for his trouble.
As usual...the GA board are dragging *** on getting anything done or meeting their own deadlines...effectively making it more difficult than it has to be to get the team organised...and with the Nationals looming...how is the HC meant to get organised to make selections at the tourney.
Anyone have any news or comment?

I would rather they made the right choice rather than meet any deadline they set themselves.
As far I as can tell they asked for applications and they didnt select one. My assumption is they were not right for the job.
I would be interested to know what the next stage of the process is if they didnt receive an application they found worthy and if that process has be started.
In my opinion I think the HC should be more admin anyway. Take a guideline from GA about the direction the want of the program, assemble a coaching team they feel can create that vision and then work on keeping the crap from ifaf, ga and the hosts off the players so we can all get our jobs done (a job I feel Jason Gaffey did extreemly well in the UK).
If things are not going to plan then they would need to step in but assuming they were right for the job in the first place their team should be capable.
NOW if GA's vison/guidelines/plan for the team is whats best for the game, well thats a whole other topic.
I just can't wait for step 1 on the way to 2011, 2010 nationals.

And just how do you know who applied and where they are from?Sounds like someone either has inside knowledge or is talking through their a**. If it's the former, is this the right venue to deseminate such information?

WTF (22/12/2009)
last gossip was there were 5 applicants of which 2 have pulled out.
Theres the answer to your question. You must be on the GA board to be so defensive of a simple topic of discussion. If GA need more time to make a decision and miss their deadline, dont you think it would be a good idea to do a simple press release to let people know? And as for if this is the right forum...what other is there? Does GA have a forum we can use to discuss things?

My understand the reason for the delay is that GA has brought in a independent commission in to resolve the issue. The guy from Vic with Gridiron Europe exprenice is meant to be the front runner but is requesting money for the program, which is needed. the other 2 in the running are meant to both put a lot of time and energy into GA in the past. I was under the impression that Roe and Manera are those other 2 left. I think together they would make a very strong case together, because everyone likes Roe, then Manera has the techinical experince that rivals many within Australia. I think whom every gets the position should look at both of these guys as at least assistant coaches, because it will only help the Australian team. I think Gaff did a good job and it is a shame he is no longer in the running but hope he is involved in the team because what i have been told all the players responsed to him well on the UK trip. Doesn't matter who does the job GA needs to hurry up and put someone in place now.

Along the lines of GA organisation for the 2011 comp. I'm sure I would be supported by players and team staff alike when I ask shouldn't we be starting to approach sponsorship and fundraising opportunities now? I'm not talking about the half arsed 'Sponsorship' package that is currently used. This offers absolutley NO value for money to any potential sponsors at all...unless they are a cashed up football fan. If each registered player across Australia had to contribute an additional $10 in player fees for 2010 season surely that would add up to something significant that could be either distrubuted to Outback players that pay their initial deposit or even used to raise further funds etc.Any other fundraising suggestions? Wouldn't it be great to send our BEST team based on skill and ability an not just fill spaces with those that have a lazy $5000 to throw in?
will the real ballers please stand up

Been reading the posts, disappointed in Gaff dropping out as he did a brilliant job in the UK. Manera, have never met him but u have to respect a guy who has done as much as him, then be in the nationals tournament in Adelaide, where Vic were winning then Manera took over the D and somehow turned Wolfpack around and won the torunament. The NFL Europe coach - John Leighton, was coaching at the 2nd highest level with the NFL league, hard to top that, i know him professionally and knows his stuff, and he had been a professional coach who gets paid to coach, unfortunately this league does not have the funds to pay the coaches for their expertise and skill, which is a detriment to the League, but thats not to say the coaches have not done a great job so far. John would be a major asset to GA I would like to put in a vote for Coach Mel Martin another experienced coach who had alot to offer the OUTBACK team, recently coach with the Oakland Raiders, and played under him and can be inspiring as a coach. A huge issue i found in the UK was lack of resources- we did not have a physio with us, and had to use Great Britains's which was embarrasing when we were in getting strapped in their rooms, while the GB Lions coaches were preparing for our game three hours later!!!! I hope all that went to UK come again to the World Cup and others who are upto the challenge, as it was a great tour and we did brilliantly, every one playing this sport should strive to represent thier country, ive had the pleasure to do it and met a bunch of great blokes..... Bring on the Nationals in Melbourne Baker#1

From my experience with Paul Manera from playing in the 2007 Outback team and playing against him at the 2006 nationals, basically while I think Paul has some good technical skills needed in the game, particularly at on the Oline. But I think he has very limited play calling abilities and poor people skills (given that a lot of the Aust coaches quit on him – and as I’m told, that’s also happened in the state team). From discussions I’ve had with NSW players, I understand that Paul can’t even coach a winning team in the NSW comp, so what does that say about his abilities?

I understand there is at least one more in the running for the Outback job - a Hall of Fame coach from NSW who has taken NSW to a national championship and been a part of Sydney Uni's run of 7 championships. The Uni players on the Outback all swear by him.
