Can anyone please confirm who the coaches for the Wildcats Junior squad are please.  The reason I am asking is I could have sworn that I saw Spook formerly of the Gladiators and Tornadoes on their sideline and if he is their line coach then they have an unfair advantage as he is clearly and undoubtably one of the most dominant and experienced lineman in the competition who's wealth of experience is a boon for any team he is on... Wink.

Cheers

Well what a weekend of football.

Game 1 had some kids playing that were absolute monsters and it looks like they'll only get bigger.  While it was sad to see the Gladiators forfeit good on them for playing a scrimmage.

Highlights of Game 1 were:

No.71 for the Gladiators - Watching the first half I was pretty impressed with the size and blocking of No.71 and when they took their helmet off to reveal a girl beneath the padding I was even more impressed.  In my opinion she was blocking harder than some of the guys her size so here's hoping she sticks to it and trains hard and humbles some of the guys in the competition.  The only black cloud that I could see to this story is if Junior takes over coaching duties for the Gladiators......C'mon you know you were all thinking it BigGrin, by the way word on the grapevine is Shane and Jenna are celebrating their engagement soon, congrats to you guys, you've taken the saying "for love of the game" to a whole new level.

Ambrose Adelaide aka Chuckles aka Chuckie aka Spewminator 3000 - Dude that was rank, seriously, rank.  If your going to drink the night before, maybe get an iv drip set up on the sideline to hydrate yourself.

Game 2 saw the veteran playing corp of the Wildcats face off against the Tornadoes and the Wildcat players experience playing as a corp for the last year or two really showed on the field.  If it wasn't for the number of blocks in the back that I'm pretty sure were coached by a certain super lineman then the score might have been bigger to the Wildcats.  This game was a big what could have been as a number of Tornadoes players were carried off injured in what I felt was the longest half of football in the history of mankind, good on their players for playing their hearts out until the end of the match.  I saw some of the players shaving off stubble that grew during the half cause it went that long.

Highlights of Game 2 were:

The Clock - Once again, how long did that half go for, next time it's decided to go 30 minute quarters can someone please let me know.

Big Hits - Both teams put on some solid hits during the game and it was good to see the juniors putting on a show for the crowd.

Wildcats uniform - While I was impressed with their game I'm still not sold on their uniform, in the blaring light of the sun with no clouds it still looks.....wrong....yep wrong.  Maybe the uniform will grow on me but I doubt it.

In the end both games were entertaining for me and congrats to all teams for putting in an effort and having some fun.

Cheers

Was a pretty good hearted first game between the Rockets and Gladiators. Although the Rockets defensive coach might be the most fiery i've ever seen in Juniors w00t he had some 'colourful' language to say the least.

The girl for Gladiators was very impressive. She more than held her own and was one of the better players in that game. Good to see!

I only watched the first half of Wildcats vs. Tornadoes, but I think the 2nd half was much like the first. The Wildcats seemed very pumped up and ready to make up for their first round loss. They definitely sent a message to the rest of the league about their intentions in this competition.

I saw a couple of Tornadoes go down with injuries so I hope they are alright and are back asap! This weekend the wounded Tornadoes don't get a break when they face the Centurions. I'm sure they will keep it closer as they learn from a few costly fumbles and intercepts against the Wildcats.

Just an explanation on the clock for those who are curious.

Apparently, as part of the rule changes passed through the ACTG committee, the decision was made to go to 12-minute clock each quarter, with proper timing. This was a fact I only found out at quarter-time of last week's epic Wildcats-Tornadoes encounter in hotter-than-it-looked conditions. Never before have I wanted a running clock so badly...

Advice to you young juniors - the following things stop the clock: running out of bounds, incomplete passes, penalties, fourth-down turnovers, punts, kickoffs and any scoring play.

So, run the ball and don't pass, stay inbounds, convert your fourth downs, score as few times as possible and don't hold and false-start so much and we'll all be OK.

Interesting things this week will be seeing how the Centurions perform on a dry track, whether the Tornadoes gutsy effort from last week can translate to results, determining if the Wildcats are Dr Jeckyl or Mr Hyde (0-8 and 42-0 results in two games), and seeing what Ambrose can do when he manages to keep his breakfast down.

Taking a look at the results I take it Ambrose did not keep his breakfast down?

Cheers
